Job summary

The Medicine Quality Research Group is looking for a Software Engineer and Data Scientist, to join the planning and execution of software development projects at the Centre for Tropical Medicine and Global Health.

The Software Engineer and Data Scientist will be a key member of the Medicine Quality Research Group to lead and coordinate the informatics and data science across the seven teams working on an innovative project and construct a network of secure and straightforward informatics to link them, from sample identification to data flows and visualisation and appropriate systems for use of the epidemiological data for social network analysis and modelling of impact of substandard and falsified antimicrobials on patient outcome and antimicrobial resistance. The role will be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis, design and implementation, through to testing and maintenance. You will lead the planning and coordination of software development projects, to come up with innovative solutions to complex problems, and to drive concepts through to practical realisation with the aim to improve global public health.

It is essential that you hold a Degree in a related discipline such as Computer Science, and be highly competent and experienced in Java Programming. You will be comfortable programming in several different programming languages and capable of learning new languages , and be highly competent and experienced in web application programming with a knowledge of Javascript and CSS. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with people at all levels of seniority in the University and with collaborators overseas, and have excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
